A New Incentive to Help Maltese Enterprises Improve Energy Performance

The Energy Performance Assessment for Enterprise (EPA) is a scheme introduced by the Energy and Water Agency to support enterprises in improving their energy performance. The scheme aims to help businesses identify opportunities to reduce energy and water consumption, improve operational efficiency, and make more informed investment decisions.

Through EPA, enterprises can gain a better understanding of their energy performance, identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary energy and water consumption, and support more sustainable business practices.

Who Can Benefit from the Scheme?

The scheme is available to:

  • Enterprises registered with the Malta Business Registry.
  • Self-employed individuals with a valid VAT number.

To accommodate businesses with different levels of energy consumption, EPA is divided into two categories based on an enterprise’s average annual energy consumption over the previous three years.

Low Energy Consuming Enterprises

Businesses with an average annual energy consumption of less than 140,000 kWh may benefit from a free Energy Performance Assessment service, valued at €500 which includes:

  • On-site visits by qualified professionals.
  • Tailored recommendations and consultations.
  • Follow-up sessions, where required.

Medium Energy Consuming Enterprises

Businesses with an average annual energy consumption between 140,000 kWh and 2.78 million kWh may qualify for a non-repayable grant towards the cost of carrying out an Energy Performance Assessment.

The maximum grant available depends on the enterprise’s average annual energy consumption:

Average Annual Energy Consumption Maximum Grant
140,000 kWh to below 280,000 kWh €2,500
280,000 kWh to below 1.39 million kWh €4,000
1.39 million kWh to 2.78 million kWh €6,000
